I thought autocrossing is supposed to be cheap!! But man does this look awesome. There were a ton of awesome cars, I would have taken more pictures, but there were already people doing that. Once they go up I will put them here.

Honestly just autocrossing alone is awesome. The only cars that ever get me to turn up my nose have more to do with the drivers than the cars. One time we had a formula SAE team ripping through the paddock over 30 mph cutting someone off.
At an event in a banked oval with an infield there was a team with a rally e36 and they drifted everywhere. Maybe at some other locations it would have been less of an issue but we had enough problems with people hitting the walls when trying to drive proper and we didn't need to get kicked out because some guys couldn't drive straight. Another thing that would have made it less of an issue would have been if they quit driving like that after the first run when they were told not to do it again or if they had just left right off the bat like they ended up doing after two runs of driving dangerously.
On the flipside I got to ride in an older Hyundai Accent on summer tires that was pretty cool. I also saw a guy flogging an older Jag XK that dragged a cone right under the center of the car and took it around the whole course. I love the oddball cars the most because they are always entertaining.

You know I have never experienced too many idiots at an autocross. I actually saw one today. He totally skipped the start and just drove onto the course(lucky no one was on) then he spun out and did like 4 donuts about 4 feet from the flag crew. . . not cool. He got kicked out after 1 run. Yes we are racing, but we aren't trying to put people in harms way! Other than that everyone is usually helpful and pretty friendly.
I saw not 1, not 2, but 3 Corvairs racing! Talk about an odd choice!

AutoX can be as cheap or as expensive as you want. Remember, the guy in the Atom won't be in the same class as the guy in the stock Civic DX.

Actually Corvair enthusiasts are big autocrossers. Were they as slow as they look in all their videos because most of their events are corvair only so there's nothing to compare to. As for idiots in autocross the rally guys definitely were, you could tell they were of the build race party mentality, the stickers made it easy to spot as well as their refusal to tone it down.
As for the Forumla SAE guys I think that was a combination of a rough running motor and a poor judgement call. If it stalls in the paddock then just get out and push.
